Sunken City

Based on Maarten Van Heemskerk(1498-1574)’s engravings of The Seven Wonders of the World these digital images present a crumbling, illusory pantheon of the everyday. Such ruins are an expression of faded power, a palimpsest upon which to impose new meanings. With its own natives, Amazons and others Sunken City shows a world ruled over by some joyful, beneficent yet parochial and insular tyrant who sees the world as it should be.
